Case Update: This class-action complaint has been moved to the Cook County Circuit Court in Illinois.

In December 2024, FeganScott filed a class action against Legacy Professionals, alleging that the accounting firm’s inadequate data security measures led to a data breach, which could cause customers’ personal information to be circulated on the Dark Web.
According to the complaint, Legacy Professionals detected suspicious activity on its servers in April but did not confirm that customer data had been stolen until November 13, 2024, when the company discovered it on the Dark Web. Affected customers were not notified of the breach – or the fact that their data was at risk – until December 18, 2024.
The complaint also notes that, as of the filing, the accounting firm has not disclosed the full scale of the breach, including the total number of individuals affected and the specific information that was stolen.
